Closed Cell Insulation – Should You Use It Under Your Raised Floor – A Case Study In Uptown New Orleans

Why are we talking about using closed cell polyurethane foam versus open cell polyurethane foam on this particular house?  We’ve spent a little bit of time talking about this house and its traditional style – a vented house with a true crawl space – and the owner’s desire to make the house more efficient.

The home owners also want to make the A/C unit more efficient.  In the summer it stays on all the time.  When you go underneath the house the first thing you notice is the dampness. All the moisture has to go somewhere.  Water will always seek to go from a high vapor pressure to a lower one.
