Not all foams are created equal. EnviroGreen Sugarcane Open Cell spray foam insulation, offered exclusively by EnviroGreen, LLC licensed contractors, demonstrates unprecedented fire-resistant properties passing the large scale crawl-space comparison test (SWRI99-02) with a record breaking time of 26 minutes―at which point the fire source was completely consumed, forcing the termination of the test. No spray foam insulation has ever made it past 9 minutes.

What does the difference between 9 and 26 minutes mean? In the event of a house fire, it means everything.

Schedule a fire demonstration with your EnviroGreen consultant and see how EnviroGreen’s Sugarcane Open Cell can insulate and protect your home.

Closed cell spray foam insulation has become a viable solution in New Orleans to moisture problems which often contribute to buckling floors and mold and mildew.

Unlike open cell foam insulation, closed cell foam insulation in New Orleans and across the board prevents moisture from penetrating the foam’s cell wall and reaching subflooring and walls.

Listen in as our customer Joey Borrello discussed what he did to try to and solve his moisture problems around his Lakeview home and why he eventually decided to try EnviroGreen Insulation and closed cell foam.

Over this past summer we received quite a few calls from new customers who were noticing their floors were buckling. Not really aware of the potential cause, it was something I immediately recognized as the result of either having open cell foam or inadequate insulation, such as fiberglass insulation, under their floors.

For a lot of homes, the heavy rainfall we received during the summer months was the breaking point. Underneath the house, with a potential pool of water, a period of heavy rainfall could be the breaking point of an otherwise fine open cell foam installation.

The reality and truth is this – moisture will always seek to come in the house going from a higher pressure to a lower pressure.

Check out the video below where we talk more about this quirky, but fairly common problem with open cell foam underneath homes.

Tackling The Great Debate - Open Cell Versus Closed Cell Insulation

In part 2 of our case study on open cell and closed cell foam we get into the nitty gritty of what makes closed cell foam different from open cell and truly unique.

If you want the best floors in the winter time you have to go with 2 inches of closed cell foam.

It has a great “perm” rating or “permeability” rating. It will not absorb moisture.

Here’s what you must remember: When an R value is given to a product it is done under factory conditions. It assumes there is no moisture present. If you use open cell foam under your house or in an exterior application, you are instantly changing and decreasing the insulating value of your product.

Check out this 8 minute video for a detailed discussion of Open Cell Versus Closed Cell Polyurethane Insulation.

Check Out The Video Below And Learn What Open Cell and Closed Cell Foam Looks Like and How Each Product Works.

By far one of the biggest questions I get time after time is what is the difference between open cell and closed cell foam. Both products are great – provided they are used in the proper application.

Used in an exterior application, open cell foam will not provide the proper insulation it is designed for. Open cell means just that – open cell. In an exterior application, open cell polyurethane foam will more often than not absorb moisture and humidity. Essentially, this will change the specified R value provided by the manufacturer.

The R value is the measured amount of insulation you can expect to get from your insulation.

Check out the video below to learn more about the differences between open cell and closed cell insulation:

Closed Cell Insulation – Should You Use It Under Your Raised Floor – A Case Study In Uptown New Orleans

<param name="allowFullScreen"value="true"/>

Why are we talking about using closed cell polyurethane foam versus open cell polyurethane foam on this particular house? We’ve spent a little bit of time talking about this house and its traditional style – a vented house with a true crawl space – and the owner’s desire to make the house more efficient.

The home owners also want to make the A/C unit more efficient. In the summer it stays on all the time. When you go underneath the house the first thing you notice is the dampness. All the moisture has to go somewhere. Water will always seek to go from a high vapor pressure to a lower one.

This video is about 8 minutes long, but definitely worth it. Check out this case study in Uptown New Orleans and what our recommendations are.
